Crew Interview is a virtual 2-on-1. The In-Person Experience is on-campus at DFW: another 2-on-1 plus essential job functions. Travel is provided if you are outside the area.
Virtual 2-on-1
Listen more than you perform. Use names. Answer the question that was asked. If you do not know an American-specific procedure, say you would follow the published manual and the lead — do not invent FAR poetry.
On campus
Reach, jumpseat, presence, and whether you treat other candidates like future crew or like competition to step on. The room is scoring you when you think it is a break.
The rule
Dress as if you could put the uniform on today. Conservative, immaculate, solid dark colors. American publishes this for the in-person day: men in a suit with tie and polished closed-toe shoes; women in a pant or skirt business suit or professional dress, knee-length or longer, closed-toe shoes.
Hair and face
Hair neatly styled; secured if it falls below the shoulders. Facial hair ¼ inch to 1 inch, clean. Makeup if worn should look like a person, not a filter.
Tattoos and jewelry
No visible tattoos in uniform or training unless covered by an approved method — not bandages, gauze, or fashion sleeves. One earring per lobe. No facial piercings. No tooth gems.
What to carry
Passport valid through December 31, 2027, a second ID, a slim folio, and shoes you can stand in for hours. If American flies you to DFW, still pack the outfit in a carry-on you can live out of if a bag misses.

They already decided you were worth the ticket
A public-group write-up that keeps getting shared: by the time you walk into the building, American has already spent weeks on your resume, assessment, and video. Flying you to DFW is confirmation, not a cold start. That is why the lobby still counts.

Repeated, including from people who watched it happen in the lobby. Current official bar: valid through December 31, 2027. Bring a second ID. Some CJO-day reports also brought a Social Security card to speed paperwork — that is optional, the passport is not.
