What to wear, what not to say, how you actually get to DFW
This is the page people screenshot. Official dress code first. Then the floor: shuttle, breakfast, suitcase, and the sentences that end an interview.
Wear this
Official in-person dress: men in a suit with tie and polished closed-toe shoes; women in a pant or skirt business suit or professional dress, knee-length or longer, closed-toe. The rest is how people survive the day.
- Navy or charcoal suit. White or light shirt. One quiet tie if you wear one.
- Closed-toe shoes you have already walked in. Polish them. Carry a lint roller.
- Hair neat. If it falls past the shoulders, pin it up. Official rule.
- Facial hair, if any: ¼ inch to 1 inch, clean. Official rule.
- One earring per lobe, or none. Watch and a wedding band. That is the jewelry list.
- Cover tattoos with professional makeup that will last a long day. Not a bandage. Not a fashion sleeve.
- Nails short, clean. Burgundy or red has gotten CJOs. Nail art and extra length have not helped anyone.
Leave it at home
- Open-toe, platforms, new stilettos, white suit, loud print, anything that shows cleavage or a mid-thigh.
- Extra piercings, tooth gems, gauges, cologne that fills the shuttle.
- Sweats, jeans, or a hoodie on the AA-provided flight in. Candidate reports: you are on their traffic. Dress like it.
- A skirt that rides up when you sit. Wear pants if you are not sure.
Do not say this
“I love to travel” / “the flight benefits” / jumpseating / Cancun
You do not have the job. People who asked about benefits in the room were the first ones gone. Repeated on Reddit until it is folklore.
Pay, vacation, crash pads, “which base is easiest”
Same category. Ask after a CJO, or ask about training week structure and what makes a new hire succeed on reserve.
A policy you invented
If you do not know the American procedure, say you would follow the published manual and the lead. Do not write a FAR on the spot.
Trash a last employer or a teammate
They are hiring someone who will lock a galley door with a stranger every trip. Loyalty is the test.
A ramble that never answers the question they asked
CJO write-ups: people who did not get offers often did not answer in the shape of the prompt. Repeat the question, then STAR, then stop.
Say this instead
- Safety first, then service — and a one-sentence example that proves you already do that in another uniform.
- The passenger’s name, the recruiter’s name, the person next to you. Use them.
- “I would follow the lead and the manual.” Then what you would do with your hands.
- A short, specific story. Ninety seconds. End on the other person, not on how you felt.
How you get there
Fly the night before if you can
Official page: American provides flights if you live outside DFW. The invite lets you pick times. Reddit consensus: night before. Same-day works, and people have gotten CJOs after a late inbound, but you wear the interview clothes through delays.

Some older classes booked and paid their own hotel. Current FAQ says travel is provided. Your email is the document. If you are on your own for the night, that is a you-cost, not a company hotel.
Hotel with a shuttle to Skyview — and confirm it
Most named: Hampton Inn & Suites DFW South. Shuttle from the airport and to campus if you book it at check-in. Hampton North has been reported with no shuttle — do not mix them up. La Quinta South is the backup if you are under 21 (some Hamptons will not check you in). Uber is the backup when the shuttle is full. Same-day arrivals: candidate reports mention an AA shuttle from Terminals A and D toward headquarters — confirm against your invite, not a screenshot.
Eat a real breakfast. Pack mints. Hydrate before you walk in.
Write-ups: no real meal for hours, snacks late if at all. Water bottles often not allowed in the room. Dry mouth is a real complaint. Do not drink coffee over a white shirt on a same-day inbound.
Bring the bag into campus. They store it. They bus you back to DFW.
Do not leave the suitcase at the hotel unless you have a plan to retrieve it. Most people fly home the same night. Recruiters sequence people with tight departures first. There is a luggage room so you are not rolling a bag through the 2-on-1.
What is actually in the bag
Passport through 31 Dec 2027. Second photo ID. Phone charger. Change of clothes for the flight home. Umbrella (Dallas). Lint roller. Optional: Social Security card if you get a same-day CJO and they start paperwork. Resume only if your email asked for it — 2026 reports say they told people not to bring extras.
What the day actually feels like

Check-in
A window, not a minute. Fifteen to thirty minutes early is enough. Two hours early is a hotel-shuttle myth. Passport out. You can be sent home here.

The briefing
Sit up. Public Facebook write-up: they already spent weeks on your resume, assessment, and video. This day is confirmation. Early is on time, on time is late — they say it out loud. Remember recruiter names.

Group work
They are watching how you take space. Get water for someone else. Do not run the room. Do not sit silent. Introverts leave with CJOs. Fake-bubbly people get cut.
04
The 2-on-1 and the physicals
Answer the question asked. Reach test, jumpseat, presence. You are still on when you think it is a break — lobby, shuttle, bathroom line.

The end of the day
CJO or you go home. Offers are often same-day and typically must be accepted within three days. Shuttle from campus back to DFW. If you got it: business casual on the flight home is what several new-hires were told on the spot.
